A single mobile phone or many mobiles?

14 August 2008

Mobile phone use for business reasons sometimes needs to be separated entirely from using mobiles for social calls. For small businesses or private contractors, using multiple mobiles rather than a single mobile phone could be a good option to avoid troubles in separating personal and business finances.

Some people swap SIM cards in order to cater to this need. This allows them to change between business and personal plans as they need to. There are a couple of problems that this brings up that can be avoided by having a separate mobile phone. First of all, it can be easy to forget which SIM card is in the phone and to possibly miss important calls because of this. Secondly, if claiming the cost of the mobile phone as a business expense on your taxes, you may only be able to claim a portion of the cost.
